Fiber Optics

Fiber Optics

Driven by requirements for high-speed data rate, the widespread of fiber optic has been growing, As the growth of installed fiber optics, the management of optical transmission networks becomes more difficult.

Many factors should be considered during fiber optic cabling, like flexibility, future viability, cost of deployment and management to handle large amounts of fiber optic with lower cost and higher flexibility, various optical distribution frames (ODF) are being widely used to the connector and schedule optical fiber. Choosing right fiber optic distribution frames is the key to successful cable management.

Types of ODF:

  • Wall mount ODF
  • Floor mount ODF
  • Rack mount ODF

Frequently Asked questions

It is an optical distribution frame (ODF) used to accommodate cable intra connection between communication facilities, it perfectly secures an optimal solution to combine fiber splicing, fiber termination, fiber optic adapters and cable connections in one single unit, it acts a protection device to shield fiber optic connections from damage.

  • Wall mount ODF: It is a steel structure designed as a small box installed on a wall.
  • Floor mount ODF: It is a closed steel structure designed to accommodate fixed fiber capacity.
  • Rack mount ODF: Most of the rack mount ODF is 19” made with steel designed with firm structure, it secures an agile design matches with future upgrades and maintain the flexibility required to be installed according to fiber optical cable counts and specs.

There are three types of optical distribution frame “ODF” allocated based on the structure as follows:

  • Wall mount ODF
  • Floor mount ODF
  • Rack mount ODF
  1. Count of fiber ports as it is very trending to choose ODF with 24 ports or 48 ports which is customized based on customer need.
  2. Easily managed as one of the pros is securing a high density ODF yet one of the cons appears in terms of manageability, so ODF should maintain easy management space to facilitate the access of connectors on both front and rear ports for insertion.
  3. Flexible ODF is mostly maintained in rack mount ODF is comparatively adaptable through applications with the integrated design.
  4. Assuring that the ODF is securing the fiber connections which are included in it, it is important for best ODF’s to have a protection device to avert fiber optic connections from damage that might occur due to dust.
